Director – Pacific Technical And Further Education (Pacific TAFE)

Laucala Campus, Suva.

The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dynamic leader to join the University of the South Pacific (USP) and oversee the strategic direction and management of all Pacific TAFE programmes, including skills-based qualifications, pre-degree, and sub-degree pathways across the Pacific Region.

Leading a multidisciplinary team of professionals, the Director will work closely with internal stakeholders, including Heads of Colleges and academic units, to develop clear pathways for students to transition from vocational education to higher education and employment.

The Director will lead strategic initiatives to strengthen partnerships with industries, government agencies, accredited bodies and development partners to ensure that Pacific TAFE programmes are aligned with current and future workforce demands, particularly in emerging sectors such as digital economies, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

The position holder will champion the integration of digital learning technologies and blended learning approaches to enhance accessibility, flexibility, and student engagement via competency-based approach to assessments. The Director is responsible for ensuring that these programmes meet the highest standards of academic quality, industry relevance, and student satisfaction, across all USP campuses and regional centers.

The Person We Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A Master’s qualification in Education, Business Marketing and Finance, Science or related field;

  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience and proven management expertise;

  •  Proven expertise in the management of significant human and material resources;

  •  Experience in the management of people and operations requiring execution of multiple complex tasks while responding to multiple priorities;

  • Strong understanding of digital technologies, including online learning platforms and their application in vocational training;

  • Strong financial or business-related acumen with over 5 years of demonstrated experience and proven record of innovative ideas and financial viability;

  • Exceptional stakeholder relationship building skills;

  • Effective leadership skills and ability to empower teams;

  • Independence of mind and ability to critically analyse problems and recommend effective solutions;

  • Good strategic knowledge, able to contribute insightfully to the business planning and development processes;

  •  Strong analytical and business skills to support strategic plan priorities and business intelligence

  •  Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;

  •  Ability to adapt to institutional culture and needs;

  •  Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with a broad range of people at all levels

  •  Experience and appreciation of working with culturally diverse stakeholders. Working with regional stakeholders will be an advantage.
    Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Work Experience in the Pacific regional countries at a tertiary institution level and has worked with diverse people and cultures.

    Remuneration
    The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

    Salary Range:
    FJ $112,937 to 138,353 per annum
