Are you an Aboriginal Cultural Specialist keen to join a team committed to making positive change in the community? Join the Breathing Space team - the dedicated residential men’s behaviour change program striving to foster safer environments for women, children, and men across Western Australia. Become part of something truly impactful.

As the Aboriginal Cultural Specialist, you will provide cultural advice and support to Breathing Space staff and cultural workshops, healing and connection to program participants. The position will require you to ensure all service delivery is culturally appropriate and that Aboriginal ways of working is at the forefront of service delivery with Aboriginal men who choose to use violence and abuse. The Aboriginal Cultural Specialist provides support and guidance to Breathing Space staff based at both Calista and Maylands residential service sites, to ensure a culturally safe service is provided to maximise the safety of victim-survivors and their children.

This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis working 76 hours a fortnight. Travel between Maylands and Calista sites will be required.

Selection Criteria

  • Under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, Aboriginality is a genuine requirement for this position.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role, including in engaging with victim-survivor of Family Domestic Violence and Abuse.
  • Some case management and coordination skills and experience in completing assessments, case planning, and goal setting with families.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing place-based support services to programs, individuals and families.
  • Ability to engage with Aboriginal individuals and families and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals using a variety of intervention strategies from a range of theoretical models.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including the local Aboriginal community.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of databases and systems to record, monitor and report on service activity.
  • Experience working within Men’s Behaviour Change Programs (desirable).
  • Satisfactory Police Clearance (no older than 6 months).
  • Unrestricted Drivers Licence
  • Current WWC Check Card.
