 The Role

Our teachers are responsible for delivering a flexible and innovative learning program to facilitate transitional education of young people who have many issues impacting on their capacity to engage in mainstream programs.

You will be responsible for providing educational leadership, with a focus on the overall teaching and learning quality, innovation, and support. The role leads learning initiatives that develop student engagement and achievement and leads a team of Teachers, ensuring that student needs are supported and that classroom learning resources are provided.

As the Head of Teaching and Learning, you will:

  • Inspire and Influence: Lead with a vision that prioritises child safety. Engage with students, staff and stakeholders to shape a meaningful future for the Academy. Provide leadership to ensure every student has the opportunity and motivation to reach their goals.
  • Drive Excellence: Develop policies, service models, processes, and systems to deliver a safe and supportive learning environment for our students and staff members.
  • Maximise Impact: Strategically coordinate people and physical resources to achieve the best outcomes for students and their families.

 

This role will be offered on a permanent full time work basis working 76 hours a fortnight.

Communicare Academy is an independent, non-government CARE (Curriculum and Re-engagement in Education) school operated by Communicare. We are committed to providing at-risk and disengaged young people with high quality education options in a flexible and supportive learning environment.

We provide a holistic education experience that meets the diverse needs of our students including small classes, education support staff, social-emotional development programs, personalised and flexible timetable options, excursions and camps, wrap-around student support services from a variety of in-school specialists and additional Communicare Group Ltd. support services.

Selection Criteria

  • A recognised qualification in teaching and currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessing TAE40116 (Desirable)
  • Experience in a similar role, including experience working with vulnerable young people living in complex circumstances.
  • Advanced computing, numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Advanced communication (written, verbal and public speaking), interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to identity, establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships.
  • Advanced people management skills.
  • Advanced organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and workload within a changing and challenging work environment.
  • Advanced research and analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of workplace health and safety in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and local networks.
  • Knowledge of CaLD and Aboriginal culture and family dynamics
  • Working knowledge of disabilities or conditions including, but not limited to, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and complex trauma.
  • Unrestricted drivers’ licence.
  • Satisfactory Police clearance (not older than 6 months from the issue date).
  • Current working with children check card.
