Who we’re looking for    
Our innovative headspace team is looking for an AOD Mental Health Worker to provide flexible, assertive engagement to young people, with a priority focus towards students in years 10 to 12, TAFE and university students and those who have recently become unemployed.  

We are seeking someone who is passionate about youth mental health and development, along with a well-developed understanding of harm minimisation and current government policy around the drug and alcohol sector. You will be experienced in providing therapeutic counselling to clients with a co-existing drug & alcohol, and mental health condition, while creating a quality customer-centric service. 

If you hold a minimum Diploma in AOD, experienced in working with young people with a range of mental health issues with a flexible engaging approach, then this might be the opportunity for you! 

This position will be offered in a part-time (.8FTE) or full-time capacity until 30 June 2022. 

What you’ll be doing    
Operating across headspace Narre Warren and Pakenham sites, you will be working as a member of a multidisciplinary Mental Health team providing services to young people across the Casey Cardinia region.  

As the AOD Mental Health Worker will be expected to increase awareness of services, improve help-seeking and strengthen referral pathways into the AOD service sector. Key aspects of the position will see you: 

  • Provide a welcoming, hopeful, empathic, strength based, family inclusive, trauma informed, recovery oriented, culturally appropriate and co-occurring capable AOD assessment and brief treatment service. 
  • Provide time limited early intervention treatment and support for clients experiencing issues associated with AOD use  
  • Identify & support young people with a range of co-occurring mental health, social and primary health issues associated with substance use and the provision of integrated and collaborative care. This will include capacity for psychosocial counselling (including care coordination).  
  • Build relationships between local area mental health, AOD, Department of Education, local schools, other community organisations and headspace services.  

Delivery of service will be provided on-site, as well as through outreach services settings like a young person’s home, local recreational facilities, local sporting clubs, local schools and TAFE.
